The titular track, Seishun no Serenade (Youtube), is similar to Genkimono de Ikou! with its energy and fast-paced instrumental track. Also like the aforementioned recent single, it’s a good energy-booster. The “Wahahaha!” bit cracked me up, but I enjoyed it. Also, spot the Morning Musume posters in the PV – in which Erina finally touches a piano again! What could this mean, I wonder? The song is unlikely to become a classic, but it is very enjoyable.
The coupling track, 21-seiki-teki Ren’ai Jijou – try saying that a few times fast – is yet another upbeat track. She’s really hopping on this energy wagon at the moment. While the title isn’t very easy to say, the song is easy to enjoy. Again, not a classic by any means, but good for a boost and good for background listening (if you want something to listen to while playing games, etc.). It isn’t a song I find I can listen to often. Occasionally and in moderation seems to age the song best. If you listen to it too many times in a row it’s likely to start to grate on you.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say that I really do like the instrumental of the title track. It is definitely one of those instrumentals you can listen to by itself, totally separate from the main song, and still very much enjoy it – even without the vocals. At points, perhaps even moreso.
This is, in my opinion, one of Erina’s best singles. I like the run she’s on at the moment. It can only go up from here, right?
